The Film

BELDI is about the life of Salima Kadaoui, who lives for the stray dogs. The Moroccan with British roots lives in Tangier, where there are about 33,000 strays. For fear of rabies, dogs are killed in a cruel way in Morocco. Salima wants to put an end to this. To achieve this, she is constantly on duty and works tirelessly. She drives through the streets with her animal ambulance and collects dogs to have them vaccinated and castrated.

It's an uphill battle: Although the government has promised its support, dogs continue to be killed. But giving up is not an option for Salima. She fights on.

Trailer

There are an estimated 30,000 stray dogs on the streets of Tangier alone, with an estimated 3 million in Morocco as a whole. Project Hayat, meaning ‘LIFE’ is the solution. Every year in Morocco, thousands of dogs are tragically killed through fear of rabies, and as an attempt to control the population of strays. But there is a solution. And that is to TNVT – Treat, Neuter, Vaccinate & Tag (also known as TNR).

The only way to control the population of the strays is to Neuter. The only way to eradicate diseases is to Treat and Vaccinate.

Project Hayat is changing mindsets. After the strays have been Treated, Neutered and Vaccinated, they are identified with a yellow Tag. This means both the authorities and the public know that they are not a danger to the community.

Run by a small but dedicated team, SFT Animal Sanctuary is currently home to over 500 animals including over 400 dogs, 120 cats, 30 donkeys and many more. As well as supporting the animals in their care, every year they are faced with hundreds of cases of neglect, abuse and cruelty.

They are saving hundreds of lives, changing attitudes, teaching love and compassion and helping their community. They are devoted to making Tangier an animal friendly city, where animals and humans can live in harmony.
